Board, Council and Initiatives - Early Childhood Development Council

The Wyoming Early Childhood Development Council was enacted by executive order in 1997. The order was then updated in 2000. (Link to order)

The WECDC is working to ensure children are successful as they are raised by stable families in strong communities.



Mission statement:

The Wyoming Early Childhood Development Council will advocate for healthy growth and development of Wyoming's children pre-birth through age eight.

Goals of the Wyoming Early Childhood Development Council:

  • Facilitate the completion of a comprehensive, statewide early childhood development strategic plan.
  • Promote parent and family education and join in coordinated health, child care and education services which enable families to provide appropriate developmental opportunities for their children;
  • Ensure that every child birth to 5 has the opportunity for high quality, universal early care and education through providers, public or private schools and agencies with funding through public and/or private sources;
  • Assure that educational experiences are seamless as young children (ages 0-8) transition through early childhood programs, particularly pre-literacy preparation;
  • Strengthen early childhood program standards and accountability and improve assessment of child development and readiness;
  • Promote new knowledge and improvement of early childhood care and education;
  • Promote family stability in which children can grow and develop productively.
